Non-original, Original Sweater

My last post asked the question, "When is a sweater an original design?" I asked the question because I was knitting a sweater using the top of one pattern and the stitch from another for the bottom. Well, here is the result:

The top is sort of from Stephanie Japel's "Simple Knitted Bodice." Basically, I used the measurements for the V portion from that pattern but needed to change the gauge. Instead of the lace portion on the short-sleeve version, I just did simple 1X1 rib. Then for the body, I used a stitch pattern that I found from a child's cardigan ("Tater's Cotton Cardi). So I ask, is this an original design or just a modification to two sweaters?

Anyway, here are the specs and what I would do differently next time:

Yarn: Lion Brand Microfiber in Black
Needles : Size 4 circular
Knitted from the top down

I really do like the way this sweater came out. The few things that I would do differently:

1. The bust and sleeves are a bit too big so I'd change my numbers there. Though in the past every top-down raglan I've made, the armhole has been too small so this is a nice change. To help the issue I decreased once every ten stitches around the armhole before starting the ribbing. It pulled it in somewhat but...

2. Instead of doing a band of garter stitch just under the bust, I would change it to moss stitch because I think it lays nicer on the body.
Anyway, here are some more photos and a close-up of the lace. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.!

I have no idea when a sweater is an original design or not. I would most likely say it is because a stitch pattern is just that - a stitch pattern and really not unique to any particular pattern. And the measurements you used? Anyone could technically come up with those. Just my input....but I am sure someone else out there would know.

And now - your sweater is amazing. Fabulous job!
