A Non-original Original

So when is a sweater an original design vs. a tweaking of a pattern? I ask because I am currently knitting a sweater and I've taken the top portion of the Simple Knitted Bodice and the bottom portion from a cardigan that I made for a little girl. No pictures yet but I was just curious?
